Job Description

The Gund at Kenyon College seeks two dynamic and enthusiastic Kenyon students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the museum field. This Summer Internship in Museum Engagement and Art Education offers a unique opportunity to work across The Annex and the main campus, supporting a variety of summer programs related to public engagement, art education, museum administration, and project management.

Interns will assist with art education programs, community engagement initiatives, and museum outreach. This role provides a well-rounded experience in a museum setting, offering mentorship and professional development while making a tangible impact on both Kenyon’s campus and the local community.

The Summer Interns will:
  • Gain valuable experience in art education, community engagement, and museum programming.
  • Work closely with experienced gallery professionals and receive mentorship and guidance throughout the internship.
  • Contribute to meaningful educational initiatives and positively impact the local community.

    Expectations:
    Public Programs & Community Engagement
  • Assist with Art Education Programs: Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Engagement and Public Programs, help develop and implement art programs for diverse audiences, including hands-on workshops, lectures, and public events.
  • Facilitate Community Engagement Initiatives: Engage with local partners, schools, and organizations to enhance accessibility and participation in museum programming.
  • Support K-12 Museum Programs: Contribute to planning and executing K-12 initiatives, including school visits, teacher workshops, and educational resources.
  • Conduct Research and Evaluation: Conduct research on emerging trends in art education and community engagement, and assist in evaluating the impact of gallery programs through data collection and analysis.

    Collections Management & Art Preparation
  • Support Collections Care & Inventory: Under supervision, assist in maintaining artwork records, monitoring environmental conditions, and handling objects from the teaching and art loan collections.
  • Inventory & Material Management: Help maintain and refurbish exhibition materials, tools, and hardware for installations and de-installations. Ensure supplies are stocked and organized for efficient art preparation.
  • Space & Equipment Maintenance: Help organize the preparation space, track equipment use, and support the upkeep of gallery storage areas.

    Administrative & Logistical Support
  • Program Coordination: Help maintain program outlines, track inventory, and prepare materials for educational activities.
  • Event Logistics: Assist with setup, breakdown, and organization for summer programs at both The Annex and on campus.
  • Administrative upkeeps: Support gallery operations, including maintaining program outline, crafts, and material inventory, coordinating schedules, cleaning and ordering the space before and after programs and events, and assisting with event planning.

    Other projects may be assigned in areas of collections care and curatorial research.

The Summer Interns in Art Education and Outreach at The Annex will report to the Coordinator of Engagement and Public Programs and work an average of 35 hours a week from June 2nd to August 8th, 2025. The position requires the interns to be on campus.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled Kenyon College student with a strong interest in art education, museum studies, or collections management.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse audiences.
  • Interest in collections care, exhibition preparation, and curatorial research.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for local travel preferred.

Pay

  • Following the Kenyon College Summer positions, this position will offer an hourly rate of $12.19.
  • Housing is covered by The Gund. Successful applicants need to apply for summer housing through Residence Life at Kenyon. The priority deadline for the summer housing application is April 21st.
