Summary

The Gund at Kenyon College seeks a recent graduate to fill the post-baccalaureate position reporting to the Director and Chief Curator and working on specific projects with different members of The Gund team. This is a full-time, 12-month staff position beginning July 1, 2026. Housing is provided and required as part of the job duties.

The position offers broad exposure to work across all areas of the museum, with particular emphasis on project management, curatorial research, digital content management, exhibition preparation, and audience engagement through on-campus and The Annex programming at The Gund’s satellite space in Mount Vernon.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, create, and process material regarding digital content (website and Instagram), digital and printed publications, and educational materials with support from eternal advisor.
  • Support, help facilitate, and organize programming at The Annex, particularly the artist fellowship program and special public events throughout the year.
  • Assist with museum collection research, inquiries, and other related collections matters such as cataloging, exhibition histories, programmatic initiatives, and more.
  • Contribute to interpretative writing for exhibition didactics, online platforms, and educational materials.
  • Support hosting visiting artists, school groups, institutional collaborators, and guest lecturers.
  • Assist in art market research in preparation for the acquisitions committee.
  • Assist with logistical needs and exhibition planning.
  • Attend the front desk of the museum to greet and oversee security best practices and act as a replacement for in-gallery security docents when need be.
  • Oversee the e-shop orders; packing, shipping and answering queries from buyers.
  • Attend and support The Gund’s special projects and events, including occasional night and weekend events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College awarded between 2021 and May 2026 with substantial coursework in object-focused fields of study such as art history, social studies, history, cultural studies, studio art, history, or anthropology.
  • Ability to remain flexible on the scope of work.
  • Show an open approach to a work culture based on collaboration and the prioritizing of new initiatives.
  • Remain open to the ever changing nature of museum work.
  • Show curiosity towards ongoing professional growth, and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to correspond and interact professionally with a wide range of audiences, art world professionals, and stakeholders by email, on the phone, and in person.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues at The Gund and across campus.
  • Ability to work independently and with an awareness of time management.
  • Demonstrate an interest in learning from peers; unafraid to learn and seek guidance and assistance when needed.
  • Demonstrate a serious ability to organize and prepare in advance and with mindful attention to the goals identified with their supervisor.
  • Confidence to speak in front of classes and large audiences and to enforce museum policies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of The Gund Collection, and deep interest in the role of collection development in teaching museums
  • Interest in research and writing
  • Familiarity with museum education and/or object-based learning
  • Previous museum experience
  • Previous administrative assistance experience including calendar management, project management and event planning
  • Experience using Excel, Google Forms, Google Calendar, and Microsoft Word
