If you’ve always wanted to try block-printing and are interested in social justice and advocacy, this workshop is perfect for you! For this class, each participant should come ready with a cause they feel passionate about, which they will use to create protest art.
To start, your instructor will share a bit of protest art history, then participants will design their pieces and begin carving. Your instructor will go over the basics of design for linocut block printing, how to transfer an image, carving and inking techniques, different multi-color block printing techniques, and proofing and troubleshooting.
All necessary supplies are provided to increase access!
All you need to bring is:
- Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
- A notebook or device for note-taking
- A cause you feel passionate about; this will be your muse for the art you create!
- Optional but helpful: Two or three reference images or pieces of inspiration, and any sketches/concepts you’d like to work on
- Optional: any additional materials you’d like to print on (ex: a bedsheet, cardboard, specialty paper, etc.)
