Chitra Ganesh’s two-decade artistic journey is grounded in printmaking, drawing, and painting. She draws influence from science fiction, mid-century Japanese comics, and imagery of the Amar Chitra Katha–a long-running comic series that portrays traditional Indian epics, history, and mythology. Her vivid, visual narratives integrate past and future; physical and imaginary realms, seeking to reconcile the absence of representations of femininity, sexuality, and power in artistic and literary traditions. Her innovative printmaking methods combine woodcut and silkscreen, yielding rich textures, intricate patterns, and brilliant colors. Ganesh’s artwork inspired our Spring 2024 programming at our Annex space in downtown Mt. Vernon, including artist talks and workshops focused on printmaking, comics, and visual narrative.
This talk was originally scheduled for April 2024.
